Babies: 9 - 12 Months

I don't know what to feed her anymore...RE: starting new foods

I know a lot of parents who started LO on table food at 6-7 months but we just started trying different table foods within the past 3 weeks or so. However I still use stage 2 foods to mix in with table food.

So far, LO will still eat her bottle, then cereal in the AM and fruit (1/2 container), sometimes egg and cheese for her to pick up herself.

Then lunch we give her half container of yogurt, fruit, veggie, then I'll give her some cheese, banana slices, or organic puffs after.

Dinner  I've tried chopping chicken w/veggie puree, fruit, yogurt and then I'll give her a snack if she is sitting w/us.

I've tried little pasta mixed in with veggie too.

I just need some ideas! I kind of want to stop giving baby foods but I'm still afraid of giving her too much table food b/c I want her to get her nutrition and enough of it. (I can't give LO full containers still of stage 2 at at time b/c she spits up too much later on). She still takes 6 oz bottle with each of these 3 main meals and then 7oz before bed.

Any advice would be great!

  • Are you sure you aren't giving her too much food at a time?

With DD I'd give her lets say 2 or 3 oz of baby food and then the bottle would be 2-3oz less than a normal one.

So for DD currently we do this:

    7:30am- 7 oz bottle

9:00- breakfast (oatmeal or pancakes and some fruit) and a 5oz bottle

    12-  7 oz bottle

1:30- lunch (cheerios or some kind of bread product and a veggie and usually banana) and then a 5 oz bottle

    4pm- 7oz bottle

5:30 or 6pm- dinner (usually a stage 3 jar of food-6oz and some cheerios or puffs)

    7pm- bedtime bottle (7oz)

  • I agree with pp.  We don't give a bottle at the same time as solids.  She has a bottle when she first waks up and then every 3-4 hours after that.  She eats solids about halfway between bottles.

As for new things to try...anything you've given her in baby food should be a great place to start.  These are some common things DD has each week: apple, banana, blueberries, strawberries, peaches, mango, green beans, carrots, broccoli, peas, lima beans, asparagus, sweet potato, chicken, pork, beef, cheese, cheerios, pancakes  and so many other things I can't even think of.  She eats whatever the big kids eat at daycare and whatever we eat at home, so she's had practically everything.
