So H will be gone for Valentine's day so I was gonna make some cupcakes tonight so we can celebrate tomorrow. I got funfettie mix and it calls for 1/3 of oil can I use olive oil? That's all I got for oil in the house.
Don't do it! I tried it once and they were disgusting :-(. I ran into the same thing and thought they would be ok - but all you could taste was the olive oil.
I agree with other posters, don't use olive oil; it has too strong of a flavour and your scrumptious cupcakes will be a waste. You need light oils, like grapeseed or sunflower, or vegetable oil. Can your neighbours lend you some?
You can substitute applesauce for oil in recipes (and it makes them lower fat!). I don't know the measurement but I bet if you google it you can find out!

We have lived here for only a month so I don't know them and H is on duty and Dylan is already asleep lol. Sounds like no cupcakes for me. I swear I just made vanilla cupcakes for H's bday and that box didn't require oil...

If I were to read your response aloud, I would say these words with a fancy accent!

hahah! I tend to wonder if bumpies think I am misspelling these words. I wouldn't go so far as to call a canadian accent fancy
if you don't have canola oil, you can use applesauce or even melted butter
This. You just sub in applesauce for oil. 1 cup oil = 1 cup applesauce. I've used both sweetened and unsweetened before and they work awesome! (Some of Dylan's will work in a pinch!)

I know you aren't misspelling your words. I'm just too used to my American ways and say these words in a British accent, not even Canadian! Wow, I just showed how cultured I am!!

I just use regular unsweetened applesauce for Dylan. Is there a baby kind?

There is, but it's just regular unsweetened applesauce put into tiny jars and priced 3 times as much. Some people buy it so I wanted to make sure you knew it was the same. (I figured you did, but you never know, lol)
Re: Silly baking question.
You are killing me by mentioning funfetti!! I hate funfetti!!
Do not use olive oil!! It will make them gross.
WHAT?!?!?!?!

It is white cake with sprinkles baked in!! Besides that I am against box cake mixes. I do not like them

White cake + sprinkles = awesome!
But, yeah, I'm the same way about jarred pasta sauce. Blech!

Well damn I use box cakes and jarred pasta sauce. With the sauce I add in my own veggies. Does that make it better? lol

Yes! I've just sauteed some onions and garlic before adding in jarred sauce if I'm really in a pinch. But box cakes are the best!
Ok how does the hippie (you) not make your own sauce? Or cake from scratch? I am shocked! LOL just kidding..
I had a roommate in college who was Italian. She never let me use jar sauce or parm from a jar.
I'll let you in on a secret :: looks around and whispers:: I don't eat organic either
: l I'm only a hippie about some stuff.

I will tell you a secret as well. I am only a hippie about food & recycling. I have a rep to protect so tell no one
