It's my understanding that because milk is their primary source of nutrition, you should always give milk first. We give DD her milk, then wait about an hour, then she gets oatmeal and/or fruit.

This. When she gets up she'll nurse off of me or get her bottle. We usually wait an hour and give her the solids. She loves the oatmeal blended with fruits Gerber foods. She's been sick recently but she ate 6oz of formula at 8a and at 930 she ate 2oz of milk @ 2(3.5oz) of the oatmeal/fruit blend Gerber stage 2 foods.
She usually is not interested in BF when she wakes up, so we do a breakfast of fruit, or fruit and oatmeal mix. I offer BM about 1/2 an hour or so after she's done.

Ky gets up around 7:30-8 AM and that is when we have breakfast together. She usually has fruit with oatmeal and a sippy cup with some water (that she mostly just plays with). About an hour and a half later she takes a four-five ounce bottle.
