STTN?-less than 12 hours

DS is still waking up at night even after doing CIO (he is 8 months old).  He can now go 7-10 hours before getting up to eat.

10 hours means he is up around 4:30 (will eat and go back to sleep)

We are working on cutting out all the night feeds (had stopped feeding at night then started again due to teething/colds etc)

Regardless I am not sure if he will ever sleep 12 hours straight at night (I'm fine with that I've realized)

If your child is STTN do they always do 12 hours or do some kids just sleep less (about 10-12 hours).  Just wondering?

  • Liam usually does 10-10.5. I wish he did 12! He will usually go down about 7 and will generally wake between 5-5:45. Usually I will bring him to bed with me at that point (DH is up and off for work) and after he eats a small bottle he will snooze for another hour.

  • Beau slept from 7pm - 3 am or 4am from about 2 months - 5 months. A week or two before he reached 5 months, my pedi said he was "stuck" waking up at that time - meaning that it was just routine for him and and that it was totally possible for him to sleep 11-12 hours. He recommended that I feed him 1 minute less every night until he was down to 1 or two minute feeds. At that point I knew he could make it. His little tummy was used to not having anything in it for 12 hours. The first few nights of no feeds, he cried but after that he has slept 11-12 hours straight at night. HTH.

  • My oldest daughter has been sleeping 12 hours a night since she was 13 weeks. We never had to do CIO since she got on a good routine young and has never regressed / changed her sleeping habits. I did follow EASY routine (the baby whisperer) but she dropped the night feedings on her own - around 11 weeks she was still waking up once between 7:30pm and 7:30am....typically around 1ish though I would sometimes do a dream feed before I went to bed. One night, she just didn't wake up for the 1ish feed...I woke up the next morning and realized she hadn't gotten up and she continued with that. Good luck!

  • Are you bf'ing? Henry continued to wake once a night to eat (around 3am-4am) until I completely weaned him at eight months. Then he started sleeping around 11 hrs a night (which he stiLl does...he rarely sleeps a full 12 hrs). Personally I wouldn't push at that age for LO to give up a night feed if they seem to still need it (fwiw, my pedi agrees and encouraged me to continue to feed overnight while I was still nursing).
