Babies: 6 - 9 Months

If LO is eating a good amount of table food...

What do you give them?

A few weeks ago we started giving DS little bites of whatever we were eating that was baby appropriate (bread, a little pasta, meatballs etc).  Well, the kid has discovered that adult food is way better than baby food and has gone crazy!  He can completely feed himself (which I am ECSTATIC about!) and has done great with everything we have given him.

I just feel like I am repeating the same few things over and over.  I always have some sort of chicken or meatball in the fridge.  We give him a little pasta when we have it (which is almost every night in some form).  We also try and give him some fruit every day.  I just feel like his menu is boring (DH and I eat a lot of the same things over and over and I want to expose him to as much as possible so he doesn't end up picky like us LOL). Any suggestions of good things to make once and lasts a few days in the fridge?

Also.. how long do leftovers usually last?  We're not big left over eaters but I can't really make a baby sized portion ever night of whatever I am giving LO.

TIA!

  • Oh good question! I am super picky (yet trying to branch out for this very reason) and can't wait to hear the responses. This morning I tried giving him oatmeal (the Quaker Mix-Ups blueberry) and when I put it in his mouth he literally shuddered and looked at the spoon like "what the eff was that you just put in my mouth!?!?"... it seriously made me laugh Big Smile. So I think in the oatmeal dept we'll stick with the baby food for now.

  • I just got DD eating more table food lately.

As far as small portions, you could scramble up an egg yolk. DH did that yesterday and one egg yolk was a prefect little portion for her. I've also made her toast. I also bought her some baby yogurt to try. Another thing she liked was sweet potato fries. You will probably make more than he will eat, but you and your DH would probably like them, they are pretty good. Do you and YH eat veggies? You could steam up some veggies and give some to him. My DD also likes apple and banana in her mesh feeder. I haven't tried it yet, but I know others shred up chicken and feed it to their LOs.

Aside from all that, I still give her fruit and veggie purees and the Gerber snacks like puffs, yogurt melts and wagon wheels.

    HTH!

Lots of good, approachable recipes that are easy to make, and just make it one night and freeze in some adult-size portions and some baby-size portions. I think you will find a lot of different flavors to try that aren't too "out there" and some good baby food stuff, too! GL!

Lots of very yummy, approachable recipes to try. Since you're not a leftover person make it one night and freeze it in some adult-size portions for lunches and whatnot and some baby-size portions. I think you will find some different but aren't too "out there". GL!

  • We did BLW so DD has been on table food from the start. Some of her favorites (that we eat often) are:

    Breakfast:

Oatmeal with fruit puree mixed in

Egg yolk omlet with bell peppers/mushrooms etc

"French Toast" (made with egg yolk & breastmilk) with fruit puree or yogurt for dipping

"Banana Pancake" (take a banana slice and dip it into pancake batter and cook)

    Lunch:

"Brain sandwhich" (salmon, avacado, and cooked egg yolk mixed together and served on bread)

    Black beans with tortilla

    Roasted red pepper slices

     Dinner:

    Baked Broccoli (she loooves this!)

    Sweet Potatoe Fries

    Roasted Chicken

    Lentil Soup

    Turkey Meatloaf
