Babies: 6 - 9 Months

let's talk about bathtime...

so DD is almost 8 months old. She graduated out of the baby tub quite a while ago and has been in a bathseat now. she is a pro at sitting up on her own - we tried to put her in the tub without the seat last night and she just slipped and slid everywhere so that didnt work.

what is everyone else doing when it comes to bathtime for their LO?

Re: let's talk about bathtime...

  • I went from the "baby tub" to a type of baby tub that is specific for her to sit in it and it's working Great for us so far! Got it at Walmart and it was under $20.

  • I mainly take a bath with her and practice swimming.  Let her get used to the water and going under and stuff.  But if she is on her own, we have a little bath chair - its like a bouncer but for the tub.

  • We have the Euro bath so she can sit up in there and we don't have to use as much water as putting her directly in the tub.

  • I don't put too much water in the tub for E, but I start her out lying down on her back. She kicks and splashes and has a blast! I wash her hair up while she's kicking her legs. Then I wash up her body, legs, feet. Finally I flip her onto her knees while my arm is under her pits, and I wash her back and butt. Then I flip her onto her back, make sure she's fully rinsed, and let her kick for just another minute or so. Then we're done. Bathtime isn't really play time yet like it is for G.
  • DD still uses the infant tub, but there's enough room at the base for her to sit-up in it and she loves it.  Fits her perfectly for now.

We have this and DD#2 loves it! Most night though, she is in the bath with her big sister. We just use a non-slip mat on the bottom of the tub and only fill it about half way up her back and she's fine. I have to be diligent of course because one big reach for a toy can send her diving into the water but this works for us.

My 2 girls, both born on a Friday the 13th, are exactly 2 years, 2 months, 2 hours and 2 minutes apart! And Baby Boy joined us October 11, 2013! image

Ditto this.  Just a regular shower mat.  He sits on that and doesn't slip at all.  I thought about getting a seat thing for him to sit in, but figured it wouldn't be worth the money for the length of time he'd use it.  We switched to the bath mat once he started sitting unassisted.

But I may try what pp said, about laying him down.  Cuz trying to get all of him clean while he's sitting up and looking down at his toy can be hard.

  • We actually just went today to get the duck tub but they were sold out :(  We are going to try another store tomorrow b/c I have heard everyone loves it.

  • We have a non-slip mat as well. Bought it from Target and it's blue with fish on it. We fill the tub with a few inches of water and bathe him in it while he splashes around.

All we have to do is make sure he doesn't eat it trying to go for his toy.
