Silly question - elevating crib mattress

I've heard some of you mention elevating the crib mattress to help with lo's congestion.  Do you just stick a rolled up blanket or something underneath it?  Or do you need a special wedge of some sort?

I just put a thin pillow under the mattress at the end of the bed where you lay his head....not that they always stay facing the right direction.

when i had to do this before, we put some books under the mattress or under the legs at one end of the crib (big books so that it couldnt slide off
