So, I had my SHG yesterday, and it is a good thing we did! I have a pretty good sized polyp in there. Which totally explains my insanely heavy periods (which are totally not normal for me) these last few months. Of course, the RE wants it to come out before we cycle in April, so right now I am scheduled to have an operative hysteroscopy (under conscious sedation...yay...) on March 7th.
Can anyone share any polyp experience with me? The little research I've done seems to say that they don't know what causes them. But they are estrogen sensitive, so that makes me wonder if it is at all related to breastfeeding and weaning? Did anyone have any complications after the hysteroscopy to remove it?
Thanks! I'm not thrilled with this, but more glad they caught it than anything else. That way we can go into April with a clean slate!
Re: SHG results... a polyp? hysteroscopy?
I had to have a polyp removed, but I was completely sedated. I didn't have any complications and I think we were able to cycle with our next cycle.
I think we may be cycle buddies (I had a SHG Tuesday). I'm having my gallbladder out March 4 and then I'm hoping to do an IVF in April.
Good luck!
I had two polyps removed in 2006 before my first IVF, and the removal and recovery were a breeze. I never really had symptoms. Before we started our DE cycle, I had an office hysteroscopy - no anesthesia or sedation, thanks doc! - and he found either another polyp or a fibroid. We actually wondered whether this little doohicky was responsible for my serious bleeding episode at 6w with Sam, but there is no way to know.
I would think that breastfeeding would keep a polyp small (low E2 setting) and that weaning could cause it to grow, but it's hard to know. Either way, it's always good to remove them before cycling - clean slate, indeed

That's great! It looks like I *should* get AF at the very beginning of March, so hopefully we will be starting Estrogen for our frozen cycle early April. I can't believe how fast that seems to be approaching. Good luck with the gallbladder surgery and keep me updated!
Because we're fancy like that.
I had a hysteroscopy last March/April, also for polyp removal, also under conscious sedation. I was still BFing actively. I got pg that cycle, shockingly enough!
MY RE attributed my c/ps to poor egg quality, but we had known abut the polyp since November and I wanted it OUT, just in case it was a factor along with my poor egg quality. If I had gotten pg with it still in there, he said it most likely would have come out with delivery.
I had no complications from the surgery.
Best wishes!!!
