I've read some sources that say you can introduce meat at 7 months in puree form, but pureed meat seems so weird to me.
1. When did you introduce meat to LO?
2. What form was it in (puree, small pieces)?
3. If it was pureed, did you buy jars of baby food or make it yourself?
Re: When and how did you introduce meat?
I started introducing little bits of chicken, turkey, and pork when she was about 7.5 months. I've never given her the jarred meat. No offense, but it kind of skeeves me out.
Here, we are recommended that meat and meat alternatives are one of the first foods given at 6 months and beyond. So, we're given the go ahead to try meat. But, I hate the jarred stuff, neither one of my girls liked it on it's own - it's gross.
So, I've started with butternut squash, next will probably be apple sauce or pears. After that, I'll probably mix a bit of chicken with butternut squash and apple sauce. Both of the girls had liked that combo.
Egg yolks are also a good 'first' meat and meat alternative as well.... it's actually pretty decent as finger food.
We started doing meats at about 7.5 months. We make our own and just puree it. If you are doing chicken make sure you use chicken thighs and just bake them in the oven. once they are done cooking you have to put them back in the fridge until the are cold and then chop into one inch pieces then put into the food processer alone. Then add water. I found adding sweet pototoes to them when pureeing really helped smooth it out and give it a better consistancy. We usually mix this with some apple sauce or veggies and she eats it right up. You could go the more BLW approach and just give small pieces of meat as well, in that case though you may need to do closer to 8 months, depends on your LO.
2. What form was it in (puree, small pieces)? puree
3. If it was pureed, did you buy jars of baby food or make it yourself? jars of food
We started at 8 months old, puree (made myself). We are going to try little bits of pork tonight to see if he can pick them up himself and "chew" it.
To puree yourself it's super easy! Boil a few chicken breasts for 15 or so minutes (until it's fully cooked), chop up in little cubes, and put in food processor. Add broth/water you boiled it in until it reaches the right consistency.
I froze little portions of it and I just add it to the pureed veggies I already have in the freezer.

My BFP Chart
1. When did you introduce meat to LO? shortly after 6 months, with pedi approval
2. What form was it in (puree, small pieces)? small pieces and/or finely ground
3. If it was pureed, did you buy jars of baby food or make it yourself? homemade - like a pp, jarred meat (for babies or adults) grosses me out
I didn't exactly make a puree - just blended cooked meat in the processor until it was small pieces; hoenstly DS like it better when we just give him pieces of whatever we are eating cut small. I think he likes the texture. We mix the small bits with a veggie usually but not always.
We started meat at about 7 months. We started with jarred purreed chicken, then turkey and we just tried beef for the first time last night. Not sure we'll do jarred beef anymore. It really looks gross. The chicken and turkey isn't so bad. I mix the meats with veggies and she likes it that way.
Our pedi said we could start all foods at 6 months.
