I have eczema, so I know what it looks like. I think DS might have it. I got him undressed for his bath today and he had red scaly patches on his back and belly, which look like eczema, but seemed odd because a) eczema usually shows up in creased-skin areas and b) he's never had anything like it before. So my question is: if your DC has eczema, did it just show up one day and how are you treating it?
DS has a doctor's appointment next week so I'll talk to the pedi then, but I just wanted some ideas. TIA
Re: Baby eczema?
Eczema doesn't always show up on creased areas. Although it is common, it can be located anywhere on the body.
My son has very bad eczema on his face. It appeared around 4 weeks old or so. He is on Similac Alimentum for food allergies. He gets Zyrtec twice a day. Nasonex once at night. Then he has Hydroxyzine for itching. We can not apply anything to his face except for Vaseline. We get the tube version and generic brand at wal-mart.
He went to an allergist that prescribed those medecines. The doctor also did an allergy test for the 5 most common foods and he is allergic to eggs. Which is good to know now for in the future. He is also allergic to banana's. Whenever we give him banana's his eczema gets really worse.
You can go to webmd.com to find out more information about infant eczema, food allergies, food intolerances, etc.
Good luck figuring it out!
Oh, I forgot to add that we wash everyone's clothes in All Free & Clear because it has no dye or perfume. We don't apply lotion to him either. If his skin would tolerate it, it would also have to be perfume free.
