A week ago today I went in for my regular appointment, My bloodpressure had gone up again and my swelling increased, After doing an ultrasoundthe doctor said, baby is ready so we were going to induce.
We went to the hospital and checked in around 8:30. At 9pm theygave me Cytotec to soften the cervix. I was supposed to be given 2 doses but by3 am I was having contractions every 2-3 minutes. Thus, the second dose couldnot be given. I tried to sleep but Dh and I were too anxious that night.
Around 7am my doctor came in to check me and broke my water. I wasstill 1cm. Contractions continued until 12:30 now 1-2 minutes apart and thepitocin made them strong! Around this time I started to vomit thanks to thepitocin. After 9 hours of back to back contractions they checked meagain...2cm. I opted for the epidural.
It took me 23 hours to get to 5-6 cm. At this point I wasbeginning to wonder how much longer I could go on. 27 1/2 hours later, with anepisiotomy, forceps, and projectile vomiting, Tyler Jacob was finally born at12:38pm on February 5th. He weighed 6 lbs 14oz and was 19 1/2 incheslong.
Due to being in labor for so long, he caught an infection and isin the NICU for 10 days. February 16th cannot get here fast enough. However, heis doing great.
I lost a lot of blood. My blood level was 20, anything lower needsa transfusion. I did get two iron transfusions and my blood level is now 22. Iam on iron pills and the Dr. said it will take up to a month to get my energyback. Unfortunately, this has affected being able to BF. I currentlyproduce 4ml of milk every 6 hrs. We are formula feeding and I have gottenfenugreek and Mother's Milk Tea and have been trying to pump 8 times a day.Definitely, not what I had planned but the important thing is he is happy andon his way to being healthy!
Re: Tyler's Birth Story (pip)
Your boy is beyond handsome and your story is exhausting just to read - let alone to live through! I hope Tyler continues to get back on track to great health, and that you recover quickly!
Tyler is so cute! I love his lips.
Best of luck with getting your energy back (and sorry to hear about the projectile vomiting, ick).
