Success after IF

dying your hair while pg...

What's the truth about this?  With my past pregnancies I just stopped highlighting it while trying and let it grow out and just dyed it at home a few times for the roots.  Well, right now I just look ridiculous... my highlights are so outgrown.  Is it okay to color my hair?  Just dye it not highlights again?  I am 12 weeks now today....  I feel like this is a silly question during my 3rd pregnancy :)~  but I've just always been so over cautious about all the rules I've heard...

  • My OB says it is perfectly fine as long as you don't drink the hair color ;-)

In all seriousness, I colored my hair all over during my pregnancy with Caroline from the very beginning and it was fine.

  • My OB said the same thing lol

He also said as long as the room was well vented so I didn't breathe anything in.

  • I colored my hair all over when I was 8 weeks pregnant.  No big deal.  Like dana's doc says...just don't drink the dye. :)

  • I also colored my hair the whole pregnancy. Ditto about the well vented room and try to wash the extra dye off as soon as you can (my appts where in the evening so I would make sure to wash my hair the next morning).

  • I actually thought I'd heard that highlights were better than "regular" dye because the chemicals don't touch your scalp as much!  Regardless, I've never stopped highlighting - every 6 weeks -, and have joked that I'm vain enough that, if I had to stop, I might never try to get pg!
  • I just got mine done this morning and love it!! I doubt it makes much difference but  I wait until the second trimester and then continue as needed throughout my pregnancy.

  • My OB said it was fine....but I waited until after the first tri out of paranoia. So I say dye away!!!

  • My OB said highlighting was ok, but not allover color (because allover color touches your scalp and highlights do not). I got highlights in my first pregnancy but in subsequent have been too anxious to do either (plus I prefer to go darker, not lighter).

  • I have to dye my hair.  Well, not "have to" but I have so much grey, I look awful when I have grey roots coming in.  I dyed my hair after first trimester both times.

And I am dying my hair tonight:)
