Success after IF

BC after Baby (MFI girls)

There was a post on the 3rd tri board about BC after baby and got me thinking.

What have other MFI girls done after baby?

DH has severe MFI (less than 400,000 total motile sperm with 0% morph).  I don't want to be on any hormonal birth controls, mirena or other IUD don't make me comfortable and DH and I both really hate condoms.

That doesn't leave us much besides charting or pulling and praying (although I feel with DHs count there isn't much praying to be done).

We want to have 2 children, but would ideally like for them to be 2-3 years apart.

I am kind of rambling now I guess, just wondering what others with severe MFI have done after baby.

Re: BC after Baby (MFI girls)

  • I think some of the ladies on her that got surprise BFP had some MFI so you might want to think about it what you would do if you got pregnant.

I have PCOS and have MFI as well but we would like another baby!

  • if we had a surprise BFP with our MFI and my DOR, i'd rent a billboard to proclaim my excitement to not have to do IVF again.

We're not using anything. Then again - we're not that active at the moment - but we've discussed it and will be taking our chances.

  • My husband has 0% morph along with borderline count and motility (and I have issues as well).  I got pregnant naturally six months after I had our daughter because we were having unprotected sex because we got sick and tired of using condoms.  Hormonal birth control is not an option for me because I have a history of a blood clot.  For us it wasn't a big deal because we were thrilled to be expecting again but I'm in the same position as you after this baby because I don't know what would be best.  Ugh.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • We have MFI (I have no issues) and are not using any birth control. We aren't really trying on our own yet and plan to go back to RE in May to use our frosties.  We chose not to use any birth control cause I wanted to give my body a break from all the hormones and quite frankly we would be thrilled with a surprise BFP!

If we are lucky to have another baby on our own, I would then maybe think about going on some kind of BC.

  • Our MFI gives us less than a 1% chance of getting PG on our own so we don't use BC.  We'd be thrilled to get pg on our own!

  • We have severe MFI too and are not doing any sort of BC. I really, really, really doubt that I could a surprise BFP. My OB said It "could" happen but she said she had no reason to suggest that I go on BC. I suppose that if a surprise BFP did happen - I would have to look at it as a total miracle and would be so excited I wouldn't care if was not exactly when I wanted it to happen. And honestly, after going through 5 years of IF - I would be so lucky and blessed to be able to have a second child no matter when they came.

  • We have a 1-3% chance to concieve on our own, and yes there is a CHANCE but its one we are willing to take. We dont use ANY form of BC. However, if we dont get a surpirse BFP by the time our younest is 3 or 4, we will start to use some sort of proctection (dont want to risk a surpirse after that point).

  • We used condoms for like 2 weeks before deciding that was dumb. We weren't TRYING to get pregnant right away, but realized it would be such a miracle if we conceived that we would welcome it with open arms and make it work. Yep, still not pregnant. :-)

  • We didn't have severe MFI, but DH had low morph (2%) and borderline count and motility.  We decided not to use anything and roll the dice.  We had TTC for so long on our own without any success, so we didn't think things would have changed...well I weaned from BFing, we went away for a weekend to a wedding without DS and 2 weeks later I had a BFP when DS was 7 months old.  We were shocked at first, but since then have been super happy with the outcome...we didn't need to go back to the RE, and we got the best surprise ever!

We have been using condoms since DD arrived, but I have no desire to go back on BC.  We just recently decided that we would like to have a third child, so we may stop those soon - not really TTC, but just roll the dice again.  If it happened again, we would be super happy, if not, no worries.  I am getting older though, and DOR runs in my family...so I don't have the luxury of waiting a few years to TTC again.

If we do end up with a third, I would probably go back on BC or IUD, though.
