While we're on the subject of hair- bangs

I'm beyond bored with my hair.  I'm growing it out and it's at that shoulder skimming length I hate.  I was thinking of adding bags, the long-ish style that can be worn either in front or side-swept, but I don't know if I could maintain them realistically.  If you have bangs, how often do you have them trimmed?  Do stylists typically offer a discounted rate for just a bang trim?

  • As a bang newbie, I feel like I'm perfectly qualified to answer this question!

I thought I'd be fed up with them super quick, but I wasn't! I just trained myself not to touch them. Ever.

My stylist does free bang trims between cuts - she said it takes her less than 5 minutes and she can do it between clients for no charge. Otherwise, I get my hair cut (or at least should) every 6 weeks.

  • I've had side-swept bangs forever. I cut them myself whenever they start getting in my eyes. As long as you can cut a straight line, then you should be able to cut your own! Saves you money and the inconvenience of having to go to the hairdresser for something that takes a couple minutes.
    *I'm officially a married lady!*
  • I have a love-hate relationship with my hair. I go through phases where I do bangs and then I grow them out and then cut them again. I just get bored and decide to change things up. My hair grows fast so cutting bangs isn't the end of the world.

Since right before our son was born, I stopped triming my hair so often...on purpose...so that I could finally grow it out. My goal is to get it to the middle of my back. About a month ago, I got bored and left my length but cut some side swept bangs on the one side...myself!  I am not hair savy in the least, but I have always been able to cut my own bangs. It really is easy. What I like best about doing it is that I know my hair best and know how certain *pieces* lay, so I can adjust a cut necessary to get the look I am going for.

I say go for the bangs girl!  It sounds like your in one of my hair ruts. Your also trying to grow your length out, so the new bangs will give you a much needed "newness" I think you are looking for without losing your initial goal of growing it out.
