newborn getting to sleep ?

Did/Does everyone else have to soothe their newborn to sleep everytime, either by rocking or by nursing/bottle feeding?  Ive read many times that you should put your baby down when they are sleepy but not totally asleep so that they can learn to go to sleep on their own.  Is this for when they are a couple of months old though?  I just don't think there is any way that DS would be able to fall asleep on his own right now without me soothing him to sleep.  Thanks.

  • Yea I def.think that's for when they are a couple of months old. At you DS's age you will probably need to help him sleep. ?DD is first learning to put herself to sleep.?

  • We rock/feed to sleep.  She's not good at self soothing yet, so we just go with it.  Just recently, she's learned to put herself back to sleep if she wakes up too soon from a nap.  Your baby is too little  to know how to put himself to sleep. Do what you gotta do.
  • I agree we let our DD sit near us... or chill on our lap until she gets into a deeper sleep. We lay her down when she is ready. She is also getting better about putting herself back to sleep if she wakes up from a nap.

  • DS started putting himself to sleep a lot earlier than we expected. It was before 2 months for sure. The day I was able to lay him down for a nap and watch him drift off on his own was wonderful!
