Cloth Diapering

I keep trying to love fitteds, but I just don't

I have been trying out different brands, and I'm begining to realize that I just can't make myself like them. I like the cute prints, but that's about it. My prefolds don't get as soaked in 2 hours as some of my fitteds get in 20 minutes.

I am expecting a NIP GM and a TT, plus a wooly bottoms soaker, so maybe I'll change my mind. They're very cute!! I just don't know.

Plus I was very turned off by all the recent drama with the GM fb page, it kind of makes me not even want to purchase any more. Even though I just sat back and watched everyone comment on it, I was just thinking how crazy and ridiculous so many of those women sounded. Plus I am just not that impressed with them. Meh...to each their own.

I may be destashing my fitteds soon if I still can't find the love....we shall see. I may just be a pocket girl at heart.

  • are they good and prepped?  if not that could be part of your problem

  • Yeah, I'm backing off the gms.  I could feel "the crazy" starting to take hold.

I love my fitteds though.  Especially with wool.  I keep picturing summer time and DD crawling around in a fitted with a wool soaker.

  • I didn't love them at first either.  But, I do like the idea of the breathability.  On days we are home he is only in fitteds, as long as the laundry is done on time.  He wears either fleece pants or baby legs and I feel like this helps to keep diaper rash at bay and is just better for his bum.  I have no problem with pockets or PUL just not all the time - I feel like it gets a little stuffy in there.  Of course the cute prints are fun for me too.  Sometimes I add a stay dry liner in there to get more absorbancy and to help him feel dry.  Or I add a layer of hemp under the insert to make it last longer.  But, overall, because I want him in the cotton/organic materials I give in to changing him more often then if he was in pockets all day.  Though sometimes he does go 2+ hours without being completely soaked.

  • If you decide to destash your fitteds, let me know. :) It's hard to find fun boy prints out there.

  • I just de-stashed the 5 or so GM's I bought back during the 2008 GM frenzy.  My DS used them, but they were never huge in our rotation. Beyond the cute prints, I don't really understand the GM craze.  I think there are other fitteds out there that are just as cute and better quality.  And I will always and forever side eye anyone that pays more than $50 for a poo catcher. lol

Maybe I do need to prep them a bit more.

I do like my MSO. It seems to work great, but it weights like 5lbs when I take it off of him in the morning! So mostly I do pockets at night with a joey buns hemp insert under a microfiber insert.

Anyone have a review of the toddler size MS yet??

  • I'm having a rough go of getting into it, too. I'm crazy about the cuteness, and I love the idea of the breathability. Also, I hate how bulky pocket diapers are.

For these reasons, I thought that fitteds and wool would be right for us, and I've invested in a decent amount of both. Now it's all starting to arrive, though, and I'm sad that I'm finding the fitteds to be kind of a PITA. I do really love the wools I'm receiving, though--at the moment, one of my sons has a pair of woollybottoms footies over a disposable. Cute!

I'm going to keep trying for a bit longer on the fitteds. I have three other brands I want to try, and I'm in no rush to arrive at a solution, as I have several boxes of Christmas-gift Pampers to use up, and I want to make the most of them while they still fit my babies.

Breathability is the main reason I keep trying them. Even though he really has never had any type of rash ::knocks on wood:: We do nakey time often : ) I also have a love affair with cj's BUTTer, I think that helps.

  • I had similar issues with fitteds. We started with prefolds, then a variety of pockets, then I liked the "breathability idea" with fitteds and wool so we tried that. I found them to get soaked soon too even though mine were fully prepped, but I do have a heavy wetter.

Also, mine developed ammonia issues that I was constantly dealing with, I hated having to snap 6 snaps THEN put a cover over and snap some more, I found them difficult to wash and they took forever to dry, and overall they never fit great and I disliked the constant wet against her skin. So now we're back to prefolds and pockets. I know prefolds are wet against her skin too, but I find them much more breathable since they are thinner so she never has a problem with them. Plus, they are a cinch to clean, she can wear wool over them, and they're cheap!

  • Different strokes for different folks.  When we started I was all about the ease and "normalcy" of AIOs and pockets.  Now I only use my pockets when going out, have completely destashed my AIOs and my very favorites are my snapless fitteds.  Who woulda thunk!  Sometimes you just don't know until you try them out!
