Valentines Day

So, since this is a hot topic on the nest I figured I bring it up here...

What (if anything) are you doing with your children to celebrate Valentines Day?

Does their school or daycare have a party?

Re: Valentines Day

  • Us- We probably won't do much of anything with DD to celebrate this year.  She will only be 11 months old, so it isn't like she'll remember.

Daycare- The older kids are having a party, but I don't think the infants will do all that much.  They did send home a class list in case we want to do valentines.  The only thing the paper said was that "if" you were going to do cards, please give one to everyone in the class.  (DD's class is 6 including her, so not a problem.)

I scored this on clearance at Target for $6, so DD does have a special outfit wear this on the 14th.  (But I wouldn't have bothered if it had been full price.)

  • DH will be off with DD next week, as our DCP is on vacation. She has a special outfit to wear, and we got her a new spring outfit and a book about love. I also got DH and card "from DD". Other than spending the day with daddy, we will all go out for a casual dinner when I get home from work.

  • Last year, in the older infant room, they had a party, but that was it.

This year, in the 2s room, they are having a party and we are giving out Valentines.  I'm bring cheese curls for the party and we are doing Valentine's for her 9 classmates.  Some of the moms also contributed 20 so we can get each of the 2 teachers a GC for a massage.  In retrospect, I think that might be overkill, but whatever. ...its 20.

  • DD's daycare is celebrating on Friday, I have no idea why they aren't doing it on Monday but it works out because DH is off Monday and will keep her all day. They gave all parents a class list so we could do valentines for their classmates. I felt ridiculous filling out valentines for infants, but whatever, its only 6 of them plus DD. I got DH a card from DD that I will leave on her crib when I leave for work Monday morning and they're both still sleeping. Oh, and I got her a cute onesie with a heart on it that says "love" for her to wear Friday to daycare. She'll probably wear it Monday too.

  • Daycare is giving each child a special treat (probably a cupcake). Us parents can give out cards (I'm not).

I bought A some bath toys (that I've been eying up at Target) and a cute card.

  • I think I'm going to make something for the gparents.  Like hand cut outs with a pic in the center.  I was going to make one for H and still may make something small.  I bought dc a small stuffed animal to go along with the room but that's about it.  DC is too young.
  • DH and I always keep it low key and just exchange cards, maybe try to have a nice dinner at home together.

DS's class at daycare is having a class party and will be exchanging valentines. There was a signup sheet to bring in treats for the party and I waited too long to sign it....the only things left were cracker and cheese plate and fruit tray. Next time I will sign up first so I get the pretzels or pirate's booty!!!

Anyone else think fruit tray is for the teachers?  I don't know too many kids that eat fruit at a party...

  • DS toddler room is having a party, I'm going to sign up to bring cookies.  I don't think we'll do much for DS, he wont remember or comprehend V-day this year.

  • What (if anything) are you doing with your children to celebrate Valentines Day? DS has a little shirt/bib to wear (from my mom).  I bought him a set of kids plastic forks/spoons since he is dying to feed himself and will eat off of a fork pretty well (if he won't use his fingers).  And I'll probably get him a little book or some bubbles or something else small. We sent valentines to our parents/siblings/grandmas with DS's pic.   AW: imageI had plans for a framed little artwork thing that I saw on 9-12 for DH from LO, but I haven't got around to it yet, so it might not happen at this point, LOL.     Does their school or daycare have a party? DCP hasn't mentioned anything about it, but she usually does something on her own and doesn't ask for parent participation.  I've been thinking about trying a baby friendly cookie recipe, so if I get around to that this weekend I might send some with him for the other (non cookie eating) kids.

I've gone to some of the parties before and they normally plate up the fruit for the kids.  Instead of fruit tray though - they ask for strawberries, bananas and grapes or something specifc.

  • We will both make our daughter a card and help her make one for the other parent. She doesn't go to day care, so I don't have to worry about that yet.

  • FWIW, my child would house out on a fruit tray!

I'm not sure what Daycare is doing but I'm sure they'll do something.  I got little gifts for the kids, there are only 3 and one is like 5 months old.  And I got foam sitckers for E to play with and sent some of those to daycare too.

At home, we don't have anything planned but I do want to do some heart handprints with E, possibly tonight, since its also bathnight.  I did get DH a card from me and one from E.
