Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Switching to Solids Question?

Up until DD's 6 month wellness visit, her pedi was steadfast against giving any kind of solids (we still started her on cereal at 5 months, veggies at 5.5 anyway), but yesterday at her checkup he said it was fine now to go to any food - table scraps, eggs, peanut butter, meat, etc . . . Is this a little weird, or is this pretty much the norm? I thought I had read up on how to introduce solids, but this one threw me for a loop and now I'm pretty much clueless as to what I should/can give her? (For example, I've read on here people giving their LO's toast - but DD has no teeth yet??)

Re: Switching to Solids Question?

  • My pedi said anything but  honey and nuts after 6 months as long as it's not a choking hazard.  Babies can gum food really well so don't worry about the teeth.  At 6 m we were doing mostly pureed food but now he eats everything we eat.

  • we started solids at 4 months because our lo just demanded them! he would cry & cry until we started feeding him from a spoon! we started with rice & natural apple sauce & worked up from there using the gerber menu's...some think they are a lot of food but we just used them as a guide, I would just stick with the main stuff until you know he doesn't have any allergies to them, peas carrots greenbeans squash sweet potato's pears apples banana peaches etc...the firsts line of most baby food are those...i have never heard to give the baby meat or peanut butter at this point?! go with your gut you know your lo better than anyone =) GOOD LUCK!
