I have been reading about flats and they seem so small compared to other diapers. They don't look very absorbent and I am new to this and will be starting in June. Can you recommend your least bulky diaper?
Flats are actually very absorbent, but they really are the most basic diaper out there. Typically, people that want something like flats skip the folding and use prefolds. A sized prefold would actually be fairly trim. GMD (Green Mountain Diapers) has very absorbent sized prefolds.
Some say all in ones (AIOs) are very trim. I find a pocket with a hemp insert to be incredibly trim. You are never going to have a diaper as trim as a disposable, but you will get used to the fluffy cloth bottom.
I think they are discontinued now, but my bumgenius AIOs are definitely the least bulky. They are almost as trim as a disposable!
Don't use flats. I can't imagine having to do crazy folding every single time I changed a diaper. If anything, use prefolds. Prefolds require a cover, which increase their bulk. They aren't very absorbent though (compared to my bumgenius CDs).
