Can you tell me about your experience?
We're going on vacation for 8 days at the end of the month and as it gets closer, I'm really getting worried about leaving him. He did really well last year when we left for a week, but he wasn't quite 10 months old yet.
He will be staying at our house (our parents are splitting up the week and staying with him) and he'll have his regular childcare during the work week.
Re: If you've left your toddler for a week or more...
It may be different for you (and I hope it is) because T will be in his house with his normal schedule.
With M, she was with my mom at my mom's house for 8 days back in November. It was way too long. Her schedule was completely out of whack once we got her back.
That being said, she wasn't sad that we weren't there, so there weren't any issues with anything like that. It was just hard getting her back on track.
Go! He'll be great. I think it's a great idea for them to come to him instead of him going to them.
ETA: My mom did keep her on the same wake/eat/nap/sleep schedule as normal, but with her not being in daycare for that long it was hard.
We haven't done 8 days, but we've done 4. (okay only half as long...but I'll chime in anyways)
We did 4 days in June, 3 days this last week (so 22 months adjusted), and he did awesome. Slept happy, ate well, no crying, and didn't even act like he cared that we were gone.
I hope Tyson does great Laura!!! It's great that he can continue his regular childcare, I think that will make it pretty easy for him!
I will add, after reading post above, that my mom keeps him on the same fairly rigid schedule he's always on. Bed at 8, nap at 12, meals at 9, 11, 4, 6, and 7:45.
She knows the routine to put him to bed (PJs on, put him in bed, give him babies, turn out all lights, shut door) etc. I'm sure you will do that, but I think the consistency helps!
