Cloth Diapering

Troubles with my fitteds

My fitteds have started arriving, and I've been slowly trying them out. I'm bummed that I'm having a lot of trouble 1) getting them on my squirmier son, with all of the snaps. 2) Getting a good fit.

My squirmier son is a man on the move. He is ALL over the place, and he really strains to roll over and such while he's getting his diaper changed. This and the 5 minutes it takes me to fiddle with the snaps are not going well together. Last night I had to actually give up on the fitted and put a disposable on him, because he was getting close to melting down.

Is this just a matter of practicing, or what? I don't find that my pockets with snaps are as difficult, I think because I don't have to deal with the fold-down rise on those, and because those have stretch in them.

Regarding the fit: It just feels like the inserts are all bunched up on their fronts, because of the fold-down rise thing (especially with the B4s). And when I tried putting on a diaper without folding down the rise, it was clearly too big.

Thoughts? These are B4s and Goodmamas.

Re: Troubles with my fitteds

  • i haven't folded down the rise on her fitteds since she was like 4 months old.  Are you sure they need to be folded down?

Lily is very squirmy on the changing table so i give her something to distract her. A wipe, the cj's butter jar, just whatever is close by.  it really helps and you will get better at it and know where the snaps go.

  • I tried not folding down the rise, and saw gaps at the legs. But maybe I didn't do the snaps tight enough. My boys are relatively small (Cal's probably about 16-17, Luke 17-18).

Luke could be distracted with a toy, but Cal is obsessed with rolling all over the place. Put him on a surface and he will.not hold still.

  • Lily is 20 lbs now and its been months since i folded the rise.  I bet you just need to get the snaps tighter.  I can still overlap most of hers.  not folding over the rise will make it much easier to put on.

  • I started using fitteds when DS was around 16 pound and didn't need to fold down the rise on my GMs.  B4s... yeah, I can see needing to fold the rise on that one as those are on the verge of needing to be folded down on my 20 pounder.  Have you tried any of the "smaller" brands?  I bet your sons would fit great in a TT or a medium Sbish!

  • I just ordered two of the sbish multi snapless. But those are biggish, I think?

I'm hoping to get a TT at the next stocking.

  • snapless multi = huge

You want the snaps sized medium.

  • I was just looking on Spots and DS for used ones and can't find any.  :(

I was also thinking that Mutts and/or MS might be a good fit for your DS.  I have one of each of these dipes I could *loan* you so you could try it out and help you figure out what you want to buy.  All I would ask is that you reimburse me for shipping costs and you ship them back to me when you're done as I'm not interested in selling these at this time.  And I should mention that all of my dipes are stained just in case that creeps you out.

  • DD is 14ish lbs, and we haven't folded down the rise in forever.  However, I do have to use the cross-over snaps to get a good fit.
  • This is super helpful, all. Thank you.

Yoda, I'm going to PM you in a minute...
