Success after IF

Is it normal to be board...

I am now a SAHM.  I find that I have way to much time on my hands.  My house is super clean, diner is cooked, I showered and got ready for the day even though I have no where to go and the baby is still sleeping.  I find myself being very board every afternoon when she is taking her nap I just want to wake her up so I can play.  Is this normal?  I see so many of you saying there is not enough time in the day and I am just thinking there is to much and I need a hobby.

  • I was quite the opposite ? rarely managed to cook or clean for months and months, napped when DS napped because I was always exhausted, and always worried that I must really suck at this SAHM thing. It sounds like you really have your act together. Don't worry about what's normal. If you can do all that and still have time for a hobby, well, that's pretty great. I will say, though, that your free time might get scarce as she gets older and is awake and alert for longer stretches.

  • At that age, totally normal.  They sleep a lot, and even though you may be tired form time-to-time, there's plenty of time then to sleep and still get stuff done.  It does get more challenging as they get older.  My little girl doesn't really want me out of her sight and her favorite thing is to load up all her toys on me and sit together...  Plus the naps are less obvious sometimes.

  • I have times when I get bored. So I don't think that is strange at all. You will definitely be more busy as she is awake more, but for now, enjoy it! Take a nap, read a book, catch up with friends or your DVR, work out, whatever! Even when I am bored, I still don't manage to get dinner cooked or the house cleaned, though...LOL! Don't tell DH!

  • Don't worry.  She'll be awake longer and you'll be busier with her more and more very soon.  I found that once he could sit up at 6 months, I felt comfortable taking him to things like music class and library story time.  And then when she's two and you're chasing her around and she's ripping your house apart all day you'll miss these days!!

  • Ah yes I remember those days.  I even remember saying to my friend (who had kids older than mine), "What do I do all day?"   I felt like I had way too much time on my hands.   Yeah then he started staying awake longer and sometimes naps are a crapshoot.   And I agree with Chocolab, when she is 2 and ripping your house apart, you'll miss those days.

  • Hmmm. I definitely get bored sometimes, but not because my house is clean and my dinner is cooked!  I expect it's probably pretty typical at that age.  My LO was colicky and only napped on me until 6 months, so it wasn't my personal experience.  But I'm sure you're not alone.

It will change as your DD grows, though.  She'll be awake more, you'll have less time and next thing you know you'll wonder how you'll get it all done in a day.  But enjoy the downtime for now!
