Are insurance premiums taken out of paychecks?

I'm about to file our taxes and I am going over the medical expenses section. DH has A LOT of money taken out of each paycheck for insurance, but is this actual insurance premiums that is coming out of his paychecks?

  • Yep, if he has medical insurance through his work, they are taking deductions for insurance premiums.  If he has a health care spending account, they are taking for that too.

So can we claim that? I think it was taken out pre-tax.

a lot of times insurance comes out pre-tax. In which case, I'm 90% sure you can't claim them.

look on the check, is the "federal taxable income" lower than the gross?  or does it star the deductions and note them as "pre-tax"?
