When did you stop nursing to sleep?

Yeah, I know, I probably should have stopped already, but realistically it's been the only way we can get him to sleep . . . any tips on stopping/transitioning? We're also trying to start getting him to sleep in his crib rather than in bed with me.

Re: When did you stop nursing to sleep?

  • About 6 weeks ago.  :)  (okay, he wasn't falling asleep but I did it before bed.)
Childhood cancer (DH) + chemo + radiation = 0 sperm.
    LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
    LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).

  • I'm still nursing 1-2 times at night-some nights he goes 10 hours between feeding but the last few nights it has been after 7 hours and then after 3 hours.  So I feel your pain and DS is 8 months old today.

  • I still do, and she won't sleep in her bed either. We're working on both.

  • Well you probably already know my answer...we still nurse to sleep and I think I am the one who is not ready to move her lol

I have been reading the no cry sleep solution on the nurse to sleep association and it has what I think is called the pantley method..not sure but the one where you slowly remove your nipple while holding their chin and so on...It has been working for us   a bit..I am able to leave her after she falls asleep and hopefully we will get to the point where I don't have to nurse her...

DH is pushing for us to move her to her own bed so I think we will be doing that soon..

  • at 1yr when we did CIO/Ferber.  he was horrible at self soothing until we finally did it and i am so glad we did.  now he runs over to this crib, seriously..it's a miracle. even if you are anti CIO i suggest reading the book.  the chapter on why they wake up later on b/c of nursing to sleep was a real eye opener. my kid was the worst sleeper ever for 12m and now he's totally different.  good luck!
