Cloth Diapering

Does anyone use liners?

I swore I'd never use them... but I'm OVER poop scraping- especially after having to be in disposables for so long.  I also think that the amount of poop left on there after a good scraping is causing a lot of problems for our diapers... I can't bring myself to dunk or spray... it totally grosses me out.  Soooo... if I want to keep using our CDs (and I DO!) I thnk liners might be the way to go.  What are good brands?

  • We use Bummis Bio Soft Liners.  I don't use them as much anymore, usually only when he is sick.  But I did use them when DS was about your LO's age.  I like the Bummis because they can be used with a septic tank which we have.

  • I like bumkins, although it does not totally eliminate messes!  Sometimes the liner shifts and it is still just kind of messy in general.  I mostly use them when we are out of the house.

  • Spraying is not bad, especially if you're already scraping.  ;)

I use liners and they are a life saver!  I'm currently using the Imse Visme (sp?) brand.  They are a little stiff at first but can be washed if they were only peed on and then they are a bit softer.  I like that they are not wasted if he pees on them.  For the longest time DS was pooping at random all day long so I used a liner for every diaper and I didn't want to waste them.  Now I'm kinda over it, I just spray the diapers and it's fine.  I use a liner if I'm out.  MOST of the time, with a liner I could plop the whole thing into the toilet and not have any mess left on the diaper, although sometimes it does shift or if it's a big poo I end up spraying anyway.

Another (cheaper) option is buying Viva paper towels, the select size.  They fit nicely in the diaper and are small enough that flushing just one of those shouldn't cause any problems.  They do the job just as well!

  • We used (and still use sometimes) Bummis Biosoft liners.  They're soft and thin enough to safely flush.
