Husbands are stroller sale buzz kills

After all of the stroller posts yesterday, I am wondering how many of us on here went home and tried to sell our husbands on the need for a new stroller, possibly the city select.  I know I tried and was unsuccessful.  Husbands (at least mine) just do not know a good deal when they see one!  Wink  My husband put the kibosh on the city select (and possibly even the city micro), he said they were too much money, we already have two stollers, blah blah blahbitty blah.   Boo!

Was anyone successful?

Re: Husbands are stroller sale buzz kills

  • Mine too.  We just bought the micro but I was trying to convince him into selling the kolcraft and buying the city select.

He never tells me no and last night- he just said no.  I was like whoa- he must mean it! lol

We did just buy a new TV/blu ray and stuff to baby proof the house.  But our tax return is double what we were expecting so I might be able to work on him! ;)

  • I second this post!

We were given a Maclaren Twin something (not sure which one) in pretty great condition.  But I've had my heart set on the City Select since we found out we were having twins.  No go.

"Why do we need a side-by-side black stroller that cost almost $400 when we have a free one sitting on our porch?"

    Darn.

  • I don't get husband's having the last say on things... DH and I talk out money decisions together - he doesn't get to say "no". After discussing we usually come to an agreeable decision together.... I really hope you guys are talking it out and not just having a DH tell you "no".... i can't stand hearing about men acting like that.

on that note- my DH is horrible with money - so he's in favor of anything i want to buy that I think we need.... it's usually the other way around- me having to explain to him why we can't afford XYZ that he thinks we should buy.... so we try to figure a way to make it work- or find a cheaper alternative, or a way to save up for it, etc.

We talk about EVERYTHING that we buy together.  But if one of  us strongly objects, that's usually the "last say."  But we both take out a weekly allowance, so if I REALLY want the stroller, I could just save up my allowance for it and not take it out of our savings.  Same goes for him if he wants something.  I can't say that he never gets to say "no."  But he can't say that I never get to say "no."

My DH is in finance and is GREAT with money.  I have to say, that if it wasn't for him, we would never have bought a house, been able to afford the big car when we found out it was twins, etc.  I get too inspired by a "good deal!"  Because of him our finances are in great condition, we've never been in debt (except for our mortgage and one car payment), and I think our marriage has benefited incredibely from that.  I'm able to stay at home with the girls because we have a strict budget that we follow.

And honestly, I think he was right!  We have a free stroller in great condition.  Did I NEED the new stroller?  No.  But it's just so cute...... Big Smile

We're major discussers- he handles the budget though so he knows where we are at financially.  He grew up poor and I grew up the opposite.  I think he's always afraid of sh*t hitting the fan.

We are beyond equal in our marriage but I know he really wants to pay off some debts so I understand him saying no and it was actually refreshing to hear it for once! lol Someone needs to reign me in! ;)

  • I convinced my husband to buy the city select and just got it on Friday and LOVE it! He's willing to do anything that will make my life a little easier..the best hubby..I just love em!

Oh definitely not!  I didn't mean to imply that, our marriage is not at all the type where I just submit to my husband and do whatever he says or something like that, I would for sure not stand for that and my husband is not that kind of person at all.  I really am just joking when I say he is being a buzz kill, when I say that it is because in discussing the stroller purchase, he made some great points about reasons we don't need it and other ways we could spend that money.  So, in looking at his points that he made, it was hard for me to continue to argue for the stroller even though I reaaallly wanted it. :)

This exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I somehow convinced my husband that I NEEDED the Valco Twin and the Select.  I also bought a double umbrella at a yard sale "for my mom".  LOL.

  • I'm past the strollers.  We got a Snap 'n' Go and a duallie BOB, because I told him all the ladies on my forum said we HAVE to have them.  :)  I'm trying to convince mine that we need a rockin' awesome mini-van now or an SUV that sets 7 so we can fit more then just us, the twins, and the dog in a car.  I have not been successful yet.  My husband is the money guy in the relationship, so he does make the last call on these things.  Which is fine by me because I never have to remember to pay the bills.
