Poll: How do you feel about the circus?

IHO of the B&B Circus coming into town...I wondered what the general consensus on circuses was... I know I went when I was a child, but can't help but feel a little different about them now. Confused

Re: Poll: How do you feel about the circus?

  • I never really enjoyed the circus anyway so I voted other.  The animal thing stinks, no matter how they treat them or don't the plain truth of the matter is that they travel with the animals so they are penned up a majority of the time and that isn't good for any type of being.  Even that isn't why I don't want to go though.  Isn't it just a giant freak show?  It always gave me the creeps, maybe I am the only one.

  • Yeah, Liam will probably never go to the circus.  I've seen videos of the way their animals are treated and it's HORRIFYING.  I feel terrible about it, because I loved the circus as a child, but of course my favorite part was the animals, and I just couldn't support B&B by buying tickets knowing what I know now.

HAHAHAHAHA!  Agreed! I hate clowns so that's a huge strike there. I guess I never thought about the animal situation (sorry PETA) or am aware of exactly what goes on with them making it a controversy. (Aside from obvious of small confined spaces and traveling all the time.) I went to the circus twice growing up--the Moscow circus from Russia which was awesome, and only to B&B once. I can't say I enjoyed the B&B one after seeing the awesome Russian circus.

We took Chloe to B&B when she was 4 and we had an ok time. I was shocked we spent $9 on an effing sno-cone and $15 on one of those stupid light up wand things. RIP. OFF. The ring leader annoyed the crap out of me and I wanted to throat punch him at the end of it. Chloe seemed kind of indifferent to the whole thing and has never expressed interest in going back. I don't plan on taking Keira this year. Maybe we'll take both girls one day? Who knows!

I look at it as just another way to rob parents blind on all the crap they sell and then torture you for 2 hours! haha

  • We are going, we also go to the zoo, walk around Pet Smart, etc. I guess we can all find issues with everything having a right or wrong (if we took a hard look at everything), but I think the circus is part of being a child and growing up.

  • I should probably also mention that I am scared of Willy Wonka and Alice in Wonderland.  The circus is in the same camp as those to me, haha.  I am a 'fraidy cat.  Since I didn't give a definitive answer I will say that I guess we will take Ben when he decides he wants to go, but not until then.

  • I haven't been in years, and would love to go, but I don't think Wesley would sit still for it at this point. Maybe when he's older?
  • Neither DH nor I have ever been, but O is obsessed with elephants, so we are going on Saturday.  I really don't like clowns and I am not crazy about the treatment of the animals, but I have no idea what to expect and we figured O would like it.
  • I LOVED the circus as a kid!!!  Ditto what dbert said also, I think the circus is part of being a kid.

That being said, I haven't seen/read much or anything ? about B&B bad treatment of animals, which is definitely heartbreaking to me because animals should NOT be treated poorly.

Anywho..... we were thinking of taking Brooke this year but didn't get tix yet so who knows.  We will probably go next year, if not this year.

  • I'm torn. I also loved the circus growing up, but I hate what I hear about the animals. My parents took Maddie this year, and she really liked it. They got free tickets, I think I might take her if I got free tickets (my dad usually gets them through work), but I don't think I could give them my money.

And we learned early growing up not to even bother asking about the toys/food at the circus! It's SO ridiculously expensive and those toys break really easily too. It's 2 hours, Mads can go without eating for that long!
