S/O Nosefrida

It seems people only use these on babies.  Has anyone tried this on a toddler?  Stella has a terrible cold and awful runny nose right now.  I want to get one of these but not sure how it would work with a toddler.

  • I was coming in to be nosy, but now I can't leave this post without commenting on how similar stella and hadley look in your siggy pics! they are sooo cute!
  • I was wondering that too. Savannah is miserable right now and I would not be opposed to going to get one right now.

Thanks!  I agree they look similar in the pics.  In real life...not so much.  At least not right now. Stella looks a lot like me and Hadley looks just like DH.

  • I was intrigued since I've seen Nosefrida in so many post titles lately, but after Googling I'm totally grossed out. And yes, I know you can't actually inhale any of the snot but ewww.....

Of course none of that matters since the closest place where I could buy one is 25 miles away. Sheesh!

  • We have something similar to the NF that MIL bought us from Japan.  It works amazingly well.  But the trouble is it's hard to catch DD with it.  I'll say that this is true with the standard bulb suction thingy too -- but she sees this thing coming at her and the fuss she makes makes it almost not worth it to suction in the first place.

  • Heck, I was wondering if I could use it on myself...
  • I think you need to start them YOUNG.  I bought one of these a while ago - Jack was prob around 18 months old - and he wanted NOTHING to do with it.  So it was useless.  I think he would have been fine as a younger baby - he was fine with battery operated snot sucker when he was young (but also decided NO WAY on that once he hit a certain point as a toddler.)  Thankfully, he can now kind of blow his nose, at least a little bit.  He likes to pick it too... and then tell me about his "gian' boo-er!"
    Wheee!

  • I would say it would work, as long as they will hold still.  It works amazingly well, once you get past the grossness of it.  I mean, there is no way any snot is going to make it anywhere near you, but just the act of you sucking and then the sound of all this snot coming out is kinda gross.  But again, it works SO well.

  • We're still using the fridas on our girls and they actually fight less now.  We explain that it helps them breathe, and they're still not thrilled about it, but they get it.  We even say, "Say 'Thank you, Daddy,'" when he's done the snot-sucking, and they do (and I think they actually mean it).  We practice breathing afterwards to show them how they can breathe better.
