I called my OB office today because last night and this morning I was feeling what felt like menstrual-like cramps that wouldn't go away. As I have risk of pre-term labor due to fibroids, I wasn't sure if this was a symptom or just something normal to expect with the pregnancy. The on-call OB told me to go to L&D to get checked out, just in case.
Looks like everything is okay -- they hooked me up to a
fetal heartbeat monitor and something that could measure contractions,
and baby's heart rate was fine, and no contractions were detected.
Cervical check showed no signs of dilation or anything.
Conclusion: probably round ligament pain --- whew! But it also could be the fibroids irritating things. They sent me home with instructions to watch for worsening symptoms, and to take it easy tonight.
I go to see my high-risk OBs on Tuesday for a growth ultrasound (to check the baby and the fibroids), so I'm glad to have that appointment set up.
Really not ready for this baby to come out this soon... just hit 24 weeks so it's great to feel viable, but that doesn't mean I'm ready to deliver -- yikes!
Re: XP from May '11 board: False alarm today (trip to L&D)
Thanks all -- yes, I too am glad it was nothing! I talked with the resident OB about water intake... though I try to drink a lot of water (pretty much all I drink is water these days), I don't think I'd understood exactly how much I needed to be drinking. She said the equivalent of at least 8 bottled waters (the smaller size). I definitely hadn't been drinking that much... so I have a new quest!
The cramping has continued through the evening... not fun, but reassuring to know it's nothing to be concerned about. But I will keep an eye on them and make sure they're not morphing into contractions! And yes, I will be glad to see the peri on Tuesday!

I get pains/cramps off and on. I'm very short waisted so the baby just keeps pushing out farther and farther.
I used to get myself worried about it but now, as long as they are just sharp pains and not continual pain i just try and take a deep breath and tell myself it's normal.
Not an easy thing to do when you're higher risk, like we are
Wow Kiki glad everything checked out OK. I would be freaking out. Keep Gertrude the Bump for a few more weeks please!!
JM
Thanks JM! Believe you me, I have no plan to get rid of Gertrude any time soon... yesterday was a wake-up call to how woefully unprepared DH and I would be to be bringing baby home... yow!
Doc said that I should start watching baby's movement too, and to call/come in if I don't feel anything, but with an anterior placenta, I don't feel a whole lot to begin with. Baby's been kinda quiet today so I'm trying not to get anxious. LOL, yeh right!
I just wish these crampy things would go away... they're quite uncomfortable, and make focusing on work a bit of a challenge!

Glad to hear everything's okay! I also have fibroids & was told one (or both) could grow along with the baby & cause problems.
Oh, I hope they don't in your case! I was told most often fibroids don't become an issue.
As for me, so far I've been told that I originally had 2 fibroids, but now I have four.
Tomorrow I'll see if I have more -- hopefully not! -- and if any of them have grown. There's one that's apparently really low in my uterus and the doc said there's a risk of it growing to block the birth canal... automatic c/s for me if it does.
So keeping my fingers crossed they don't get worse!
