What Bassinet did you use?

I posted this on the pregnancy board, then thought it should go with the more "experienced" moms :) TIA!

I need to put this baby in a bassinet in our bedroom for the first few months. I liked a couple bassinets, until I read that you can only use them until the baby is 15 pounds or 3 months old. That's not long at all!! Have any of you found any other options? Space is an issue at our house (tiny), so I can't have another crib, like I did with my son (who still sleeps in his crib in his own bedroom).

What did you use?

Re: What Bassinet did you use?

  • Instead of a bassinet we saved our $ and were gifted an infant swing and honestly DD slept in that for the first 2 months of her life before we got her to the crib.  It worked great. Although I don't think the AAP would support my decision.  It worked for us and we didn't have to have one more peice of furniture to store after she outgrew it.

  • ARCS. Best thing we bought. He slept in it for the first few months, and now it's a PNP in our bedroom for when I take showers etc.

  • Arms Reach Co-sleeper -- the original (full size) not the mini.  I really liked it.  We had it set up as a bassinet, not attached to the bed.  It converts to a pack and play, so we still use it for DD when we travel.

It's definitely more expensive than a regular pack and play, but you can use the bassinet feature to a much higher weight (maybe 30 pounds?  I can't remember exactly).  Basically, you can use the bassinet part until your baby can get into a sitting position on his/her own (at which point you'd need to use the pack and play part).

  • We used the newborn napper on the pnp and then the bassinet part of the pnp. If that's too big, I would think of getting one of the mini arms reach co-sleepers. You do not need to use it as a cosleeper if you aren't comfortable with that but if you are, it makes night time feedings so much easier. https://www.target.com/Arms-Reach-Mini-Co-Sleeper-Bassinet/dp/B00009Q6G6/ref=sc_pd_gwvub_2_title and it works to 30 lbs.

  • We used the arms reach mini co-sleeper and loved it. We didn't attach to the bed at first, and then attached after a month or so. LO slept in it for six months. We borrowed my cousins and I plan on buying our own for the next baby.

  • We used the bassinet on the pack n play with DD and for DS my mom bought us the Baby Planet Eden Convertible Bassinet.

This was great on space and we used it up to five months, at which point he started sleeping in a crib.  I loved it and just gave it to my brother.
