Brazilian Wax...

whose had one? I am thinking of getting this done but I am scared that it is going to hurt too badly. Anyone had one? What was your experience?

Re: Brazilian Wax...

  • I've never had one but my good friend told me that she had a regular wax a few days before she was due and it was so painful and terrible that she actually bled and had to apply ice packs to the area.  IMO I don't think I would do it.

  • I have...and it's super painful normally, especially the first time.  Everyone is different though.  However, every pregnancy book I've read says to skip it during pregnancy because it is even more painful.

  • I just had one 3 weeks ago. It was a little more painful than usual because the area is more sensitive but nothing too bad. There was no bleeding or swelling of any kind. And for some weird reason, my hair seems to be growing faster during pregnancy. So sadly, instead of lasting 3 weeks before the hair grew back like usual, this one lasted more like 2.

  • I tried a home version while not pregnant, and I couldn't do it. I ended up having to soak/cut away the wax. It sucked.

  • Getting one while pregnant is NOT something I'd advise, especially if you have never done it before. I used to get them done periodically, especially as a newlywed, and decided to do it once while pregnant with my son because I couldn't shave very well.

It's not pleasant when you're not pregnant, but while pregnant...it was absolutely excruciating. I seriously cried. The blood flow and sensitivity down there is greatly increased and I was in pain for 2 days afterwards. NOT worth it. I stuck to shaving and when it became too difficult for me, DH helped me.

  • The first one is just awful.  They are a lot better after the first.  I had one today and it was no big deal.

  • I would NOT recommend getting a Brazillian for the first time while pregnant.  I'm scared to get a regular bikini wax, and I'm used to those!

  • Pre-pregnancy I had them done every 4 weeks.  It's a little painful but not horrible in my opinion. And it gets easier every time-you get used to it.  I have not had one since being pregnant so I don't know how painful it is.  I've heard that it's worse because of the increase of blood flow to that area.  I planned on getting a regular wax next week so I'll let you know how it goes.

  • If you are taking prenatal vitamins, then there is no point in wasting the money unless you can afford to. The prenatal vitamins make your hair grow so quickly. I used to be able to shave my legs and would be good for a week, NOW its like the next day.

Let me say this, if I went and got a Brazilian my husband would be OVER the moon, hes always wanted me to get one but I'm not very comfortable with someone all up in my goodies besides him or the doctor.

  • I made my first one back in November, right before we found out we were pregnant! It hurt like a you know what haha! The lady I went to had great reviews and she even told me that she does not do it on pregnant women unless they get a DR's note.  This is because the higher blood flow and because your skin is so much more sensitive while pregnant.

I was planning on keeping it up until we found out we were pregnant. Now I will wait and may start again after the pregnancy is over. :)

  • I had one done before my wedding and I used the "No Scream Cream" and it numbed the area and let me tell you, it was a life saver!  I honestly didn't think it was all that bad.  But, I'm definitely not going to try it out while being pregnant!

  • I've never had a Brazillian, but I did bikini waxes throughout my last pg and it wasn't really much (if any) worse than normal. I have only been once at the beginning of this pg and plan to go again as soon as I can find the time! It's so much easier, even if she doesn't get everything, towards the end when you can't see so well. I ended up timing it perfectly like 2 weeks before DS was bord so I felt pretty good about all that was on display lol.
  • Thanks ladies!!! I think I will wait until after the baby comes. :)

  • I was going to ask this! I've had several of them but I haven't had any yet while pregnant. I know you are supposed to lay off the caffeine for a few days before you get any way so I'm hoping that since I haven't had any in 5 months, I will be ok. Overall, it was way more awkward than painful I thought - I would rather get waxed than get blood taken. I am a little scared about the pain level while pregnant so I'm thinking mabe just a bikini wax would be better. If you've never had one, I don't know if I'd suggest getting one now.

  • Whatever. Its fine. It really doesn't hurt that bad. However, it DEFINATELY does hurt more when you're pg, so if you haven't done it before, either a) don't judge the pain by this time, or b) wait 'till your not pg anymore.

All that being said, when you are 8 months pg and its hot as all holy hell outside and you haven't seen your lady bits for months and you're afraid to have DH go anywhere near them with a sharp object, a bikini wax may be just the ticket. Skip the brazilian though, you don't really need that.

But the ladies in the mat ward will definately compliment you on being neat, lol!!!

  • I can barely bring myself to shave down there after I got a horrible ingrown hair at the beginning of my pg. I live in Florida, so it'll be maintenance season pretty soon. But thankfully, my husband doesn't expect be to look like a pre-pubescent girl 24/7.

  • I got waxed 3 weeks ago.  I don't go full Brazilian but (TMI?) I leave some up front.  I can't go bald there, it just looks WEIRD.  That being said, it really didn't hurt any more than it did before I was pregnant, but we'll see how I feel when I get it done again next week.  I am considering getting my underarms waxed, too.  Yes, prenatals can make your hair grow faster.  I'd rather get a wax every couple of weeks than shave each day in a place I can barely see anymore, lol.  I know for some people it hurts more than others, so this probably varies.

  • I have gotten them done before and I really don't think that they are that bad. I used ot take a couple of motrin 30 minutes before & I was fine. My husband & I are going on our babymoon next week & I am considering getting one. I think that I will speak to the spa before I have it done just to make sure I am comfortable, if not then I'll just go with a bikini wax. The main thing is your comfort level with the aesthetician. I will probably still take a couple of Tylenol before I go though.

  • Umm, they hurt like a mother f***er ha ha.  You will get used to them over time.  Some people can't stand it, but your skin does get less sensitive to the waxing.

Having said that, I suspect that pregnancy would not be an ideal time to start bc your skin and below the waist area are more senstive than normal.  So just proceed with caution!
