Question about White tea...

QT has this delicious Peach flavored White tea that I loved before becoming pregnant.  I havn't had any since my BFP but it sounds sooo good today.  However, I have heard that the antioxidents in green tea can block some of the absorption of folic acid and possibly lead to neural tube defects.  Does anyone know if white tea does this too?  Is it a big deal in the second trimester?  Can a baby still develop neural tube defects this far along?

Re: Question about White tea...

  • Yes, it is the same as green tea. But you can still consume it in moderation, one or two cups at the most per day.

  • I was just at my 16 week checkup, and the topic of folic acid came up.  She said it isn't as important to have now because the neural tube is long since developed.  It doesn't HURT, of course, but isn't as necessary as it was at the beginning.  I wouldn't worry about the tea--and if you still worry about it, drink your tea mid-day so you have had a few hours since or until you take your folic acid, depending on of you take it in the morning or at night.
