S/O --What do day camps cost in your area?

The Center where DS used to go to daycare has a good summer program. It's about $250/week plus nearly $400/summer in "field trip fees."  (They go on a couple of field trips every week to a water park, movies, bowling, nature center, etc.)

Our gym seems to have the cheapest summer program. $155/week, but of course you also are paying gym membership fees.

Our local rec center has camps for $200/week, but the hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We'd have to do the before and aftercare which adds $80/week.

  • Anywhere from $80 to $400+/week
    DS1 age 7, DD age 5 and DS2 born 4/3/12

  • The two day camps in our area are about $5,000 for eight weeks. It includes meals and transportation, plus any field trips, but that is just waaaaaay out of our budget. I'm searching for a cheaper camp, but I haven't been able to find a non-religious one yet that's within reasonable driving distance.

  • I'd say 200 a week on average.  There's a nature camp I'd love for him to attend, even just for a week, but that's 300 a week.  I think the Y is just about the cheapest at 150 or 175.  And they're outside all day (outside is good, but not when it's 100 degrees - all day).  We can't afford that every week, by any means.
  • DD goes to one offered at her gymnastics activity center.  They offer a 9a-12p session and a 1p-4p session every day--you can sign up for any combination you want.  So if we sent her for both sessions every day of the week, it would be $250/wk.  The greater Detroit YMCA has an overnight camp about 20 minutes from our house.  They have an option for the younger kids where they don't sleep over--you pick them up at 7:30pm, after "campfire."  So they are there 8:30am to 7:30 pm and get 3 meals a day plus snacks, horseback riding, crafts, etc.  The non-sleep option is $400 for the week, the sleep-over option is $600 per week.  I think for the number of hours, meals and activities, that's pretty reasonable.
  • Ours is $52 a week, not including fee's for field trips.

  • DD and DS are going to camp at the Y for a week, 9-12 and it's $104 for both of them. DS also goes to vacation bible school for a week and that's free. I haven't really looked at any other type of camps or anything all day, so I'm not sure of the cost for that.

  • dd is going to a camp at her pre-k (in a synagogue), 3 days a week from 9:30-1, $110 per week.  They offer 8 weeks, but you can go as many or as few weeks as you want.  DS is going to an all day camp  (drop off is as early as 8, pick up as late as 4) 5 days a week for $215 per week (actually it was $235 but if you signed up for 2+weeks it was 215 per week).  Our parks and recc camps vary but it looks like the average was about $180 per week, for 5 days a week from about 9-12.  I will say that ds's and dd's camp are considered quite reasonable compared to a lot of other options.  and if you were to go 5-10 miles south into another county (which is closer to washington d.c., we're closer to baltimore) that price goes WAY up.  so it's very location-based (like everything else:)  there is no transportation provided for either camp.  I have to provide lunch for both.  for dd, I am just so thrilled that she will already be fed lunch when i pick her up--that way i can just get her home and put her down for a nap without dealing with lunch.
  • Department of Parks and Rec has a kids' summer day camp that runs M-F, 7:30am-6pm for $135/week. Other local day camp options are comparably priced.
  • I was just quoted $3300 for 4 weeks!  I paid $3000 for 6 weeks last summer.
  • We pay $4,000 for 8 wks 5 days a wk. But of course once they hit 1st grade the price goes up a lot more. That includes everything including lunch, bus pick up at your house, and so many more things.
