Andrew Ryan was born at 7:51 pm on February 3, 2011. 7 lbs 4 oz and 20.5 inches long.
Short(ish) birth story:
At my 38 week appointment, I had a ultrasound and the baby was measuring a couple weeks behind. My OB told me to expect to be induced after my 39 week appointment, which was this Wednesday. On Wednesday, the u/s indicated that the baby was measuring at 37 weeks and had a small stomach, which can indicate interuterine growth restriction. My OB told us to head to L&D at 5 pm that evening. At 6, she inserted a Foley bulb because I was only 1 cm and she didn't want to use hormones unless absolutely necessary. But 8 am this morning I was dialted to a 5. She broke my water and started Pitocin. Early contractions were managable (and only felt in my lower pelvis!) but by about 2 pm I was dialated to 6 cm and having stacking contractions. It was abolutely unbearable, not because of the pain of the contraction but because I had about 10 seconds between them. I opted for the epi. While it did take away 100% of my pain, I felt very uncomfortable not being able to move on my own. I was dehydrated despite IV fluids and my BP kept dropping, which cause the baby to have an irregular heartbeat. They put me on oxygen and I slept for a couple hours. When I woke up around 6, I was fully dialted and ready to push. We started pushing around 6:20 pm and after 1.5 hours, Andrew Ryan entered the world!

misskassie- the foley bulb was not too bad. Not the most pleasant experience of my life, but certainly not excruciating. It felt like an "intense" internal while it was being inserted and then I had bad cramps and lower back pain for about 8 hours while it was working. They offered morphine for the pain but it was more like a bad period pain, so I declined. They took it out after 12 hours and by then I wasn't feeling it at all.
