Cloth Diapering

Glad to Be Back in Cloth

After a week spent traveling with my mother and using disposables, boy am I glad to be home with my piles of fresh, clean diapers just waiting for me!

Here's a quick rundown of my week in paper diapers:

* Brought about 2/3 of the remaining "stash" of Size 1 with me (~70 diapers) over my mother's protestations. We discovered about 4 hours into trip that she'd definitely outgrown them! Ran out and bought 60 S2. Oops. (and ca-ching -- there went $25)

* I never feel like I get a good fit with disposables. They always seemed to sag around her waist.

* The first few days, the smell was AWFUL. Then it went away. I often wondered how disposable users weren't knocked sideways from the horrific stench, but apparently you get used to it?

* We had one blowout. It blew out the leg, not up the back.

* But speaking of the back, why does it always fold down like that? Also, her butt looked so small -- she did fit into outfits she doesn't usually fit in, though. And I do have to admit the cloth diapers look so much bulkier now!

* No rash, thank goodness, but the crinkly sound drove me insane!

So, not as bad as I expected, and I"m glad I got used to that smell!

Wow. Glad you got back in cloth!! I don't even want to try disposables because I don't want to see how trim they are. :)

DD can't wear her 12-18 month skinny jeans with cloth Sad  But I am still so glad that we switched!  I will definitely plan better with future children... lots of stretchy clothes, lol!

  • Yeah I feel ya we spent about 2 weeks in disposables because we had to send back half of our stash to Cottonbabies due to a defect (which they quickly fixed thank goodness) so we barely had enough diapers for a day a half.  Since we use a pay machine it wasn't worth it to wash such small loads of diapers and to have to constantly fight our neighbors for the machine so we switched for those two weeks.  It sucked.  We had 3 major poopy blow outs and I can't even count how many leaks.  Tried two different brands and yep the smell is nasty.  I will admit it was nice not having to do the extra laundry of diapers for a few days but it was basically offset by how many extra cloths she went thru.  Only upside was she managed to fit into some old 6-9 onsies that I thought she was about out of for that two weeks.
