I had my first appt with my new drs office tonight and she felt my neck and said she thought my thyroid gland felt a little enlarged so she is sending me to have bldwrk to have it checked. She said it could just be hormonal that it feels bigger or that that is just how mine is, personally I don't think it feels puffy or different than usual. Has this happened to anyone else and what were the results? I have no family history of thyroid disorders btw.

Re: Has anyone else told their thyroids need checked
I developed Postpartum Thyroiditis when my son was around 6 months old. I went in for a pap and the NP took one look at me and said, wow, look at that goiter! I had no idea what she was talking about, I didn't have any unusual symptoms and then she pointed out how huge and puffy my throat was. My levels were crazy (normal is .4 - 4, and mine were at a 27). I was on Synthroid for 3 months and it cleared on it's own.
Why I shared this is because PPT is pregnancy hormone induced and so I was automatically tested again with this pregnancy. It's very important to take the necessary medication, but especially during pregnancy. Thyroid disorder is extremely common (especially in women) and nothing to be overly concerned about, should you end up needing to have it treated.
Do you have other symptoms/ reasons for your Dr to be concerned? It seems odd that your Dr is jumping into tests if you have no other symptoms.
Sorry - I have no experience with it but I hope your test results come back as normal
Not that I'm aware of, I gained about 10 lbs already but I was on the thin side before I got pregnant. She was just concerned bc she thought my neck was enlarged in the area of my thyroid.
