Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Baby Sign

Anyone planning on doing this? I was with an 18mos old this weekend and it was AMAZING the communication that went on between her and her mom, she has been signing since about 7-8 months.  That sold me.  She would even say please when she asked for things.  She did use her other words too but it was soooo cool. Re: Baby Sign

  • We have started, but just with "Mommy" and "Daddy". We'll gradually increase how much we sign to him, although I tend to sign a lot when I'm around him.

  • Nope. I'm hoping Olivia will learn how to actually say please, thank you, etc. I think I can teach manners as well as how to speak without using sign language. But that's just me, I nannied a boy who signed and it was neat and all, just not for us. ~A

  • Yes. My nephew signs, and he's much happier because he has a way of telling us what he wants. Plus, he's already so polite because even at this age he can tell people please and thank you!

  • I work in a day care/preschool and we teach the children in the infant room and the next room up (12-18months) baby signs.  It was so cool to see them use them... their favorite is always "More" :-)

  • i plan on doing it, im still trying to do some research though
  • well la te da Ashely....I didn't think this was a flameful post :)  Obvisouly we will be teaching real vocabulary but at that age the average child can only say 20-30 words and with this you can extend their vocabulary so much.  Plus, it is a neat skill to have as you age, specially if you have deaf realatives, which we do have.....

  • I want to sign us up for the classs, but I think when I looked I have to wait till we are 7 months. But I do think it is an excellent way to communicate. I am excited to take the class. Big Smile

  • We are doing this with DS.  We started at 4 months with milk, mom and dad.  I saw him just this past weekend doing the sign for milk.  Not in context, but he was doing it.  I can't wait to teach him more.

  • Absolutely! It can really help younger babes to feel less frustrated bc they're able to communicate their needs. I did it with some of my nanny kids and it was an incredible experience! We used the Signing Time dvds, which are a totally fun and easy way to start out!
  • We are planning on doing this. I am trying to research and find the best way to go about teaching him to sign. I know a little but it will be a learning experience for DH and I also. We are looking forward to starting it within the next month.
  • I just scored a dvd on ebay for $5!
