Re: what are you reading?

  • I have the Sears parenting book.  I like it, but I haven't gotten that far into it yet.  Do you like Happiest Baby on the Block?  I was thinking of getting that one.

to be honest, im a chapter or two deep- i started reading it a few months back and thought that i'd retain more and find it more meaningful once lo is actually here and i can put the practice into place.  if it's any consolation, i've heard many good things about it so my guess is it's worth the read.  thanks for the dr. sears tip- i'll check it out!

  • I am reading the happiest baby on the block and the girlfriends guid to the first year. I have WTE the first year, but I don't really like the series that much.

  • Happiest baby on the Block rocks!  In all seriousness, I love that man.  Also love Baby 411- real advice and none of the b.s. that's in most parenting books.  Even though I do own What to Expect your first year I can't stand reading it because it feels so preachy and redundant.

  • I have happiest baby on the block and I just started it.  It's soooo hard for me to read books like this.  Even pregnancy books were pretty boring to me.  It's supposed to be a good one, though.  My SIL swears by baby wise, which I read about half of (also super boring), and then my friend, who specializes in early childhood education and something else behavior related, told me that book is evil.  Soooo, I dunno.  Lots of people have different opinions on those kinds of books.  I've also heard good stuff about the Dr. Sears books.

  • I got Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child from my SIL for Christmas this year.  I read through most of the relevant chapters (it goes up to teenage years!) and thought it was well structured and interesting.  It has lots of real life stories and anecdotes about sleep problems and how the parents solved them, which I think is a more fun way to present the information.

  • These are ones that I have read and liked

Heading Home with Your Newborn From Birth to Reality

    Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child

    Happiest Baby on the Block

    The Baby Whisperer

Babywise (some parts are good, others not)

I like reading What to Expect the First Year as they go through the first year.  I will probably read it each month throughout the first year.
