fever & teething...?

what are normal temps that can be seen w/ teething? is 100.X still within the normal limits for teething? I guess for some reason that seems kinda high for an axillary temp just due to teething but DS had 2 days with nothing else going on except temps in 99s & 100s and cranky, sticking hands in mouth, etc and 1st molars are coming through...could just be a virus but it was an issue at daycare which is why I ask. He's all good now but it made me curious about whether teething really causes temps that go up past 100...

Re: fever & teething...?

  • My pedi said that teething will not cause a "true" fever (in toddlers it's over 103 under the armpit I believe). They may get a little warm but that a true fever is because of an infection (which teething can cause if germs/food get under the skin where it is breaking). I would keep an eye on it and make sure that a fever doesn't develop or that LO doesn't show other signs of having an infection. A mild fever can still be an indication of something else going on, but given that LO is showing signs of teething I'd put money on it being just that.
