Nolan is vomiting again... He was sick about two weeks ago. I JUST Overhauled the house with disinfectant! I am losing it here! We were at a friends in town for dinner, and he was playing on minute, and the next, laying on the floor moaning and saying "something doesn't feel well.
Fever of 102. Pale as a ghost. We leave. get home, he starts throwing up. It has now been 2 hours, and he is averaging every 15 minutes of vomiting for the last 2 hours. He has a cough as well. He was coughing today, but I assumed it was his asthma (reactive airway) acting up from the weather/being inside. I know from our pedi that we are not to give him anything until he has not thrown up for 2 hours, but what else do we do? I am worried about the flu because of the fever and cough.
I am worried about him. He went from fine, to not in minutes, and he is a noodle right now. Miserable kid. Plus I am worried about Gwen. And, I am as you know a spaz.
Re: UGHHHHHH... any nurses around??
I hope he is feeling better but unfortunately, there isnt much you can do until he stops vomiting. It is uncomfortable and not pleasant for the little guy but he'll probably be ok. Over the next day, watch for dehydration.
My aunt is an on-call nurse for a pedi's office and she tells us about calls that she gets. Unfortunately, there is nothing that she or the doctor could do at this point to make him stop vomiting, it just has to run its course. Of course, many parents arent ok with that, it is hard to watch your little guy be that sick and miserable. So when parents demand something she would tell them to take him to the ER for IV fluids. And then the parents say "Do you think he needs to go to the ER?" And she says no but there isnt anything else you can do right now and you are insisting on some type of treatment. I'm not saying that you did this, are being demanding or anything like that. This is just how her conversations about stomach bugs usually go and there is really nothing that can be done.
Think of it as if you were sick. Would you call the doc in the middle of the night or go to the ER if you were vomiting? No. For some reason, we tend to overreact/want an immediate solution for our kids.
Hopefully he is starting to feel better and you can get some fluids in him today. Make sure to take it slow, that little belly is very sore right now.
