usps Question.

If I have a package ready to go, postage, shipping label everything on it ready to go, do I need to schedule a pick up or can I just put it out to my mailbox? It's a small box, not an envelope. It says on the website to schedule by the night before, I'm just wondering if I can just leave it for him to take. I don't need him to come to the door or anything.

Re: usps Question.

  • You can just drop it in your box for the USPS. As long as it is stamped and labeled, they will take it.

For that matter, I leave packages on my porch for the UPS guy with a note for him to take and he does (he comes at least 3 times a week, since I get a lot of household items from him).

  • I am pretty sure that it has to weigh less than a pound for them to just take it without scheduling first. You can give it a shot, but don't be surprised if they refuse it.

  • I believe it has to be first class mail (not priority, express, etc) and 13 oz or less for it to be picked up or dropped into a regular blue mailbox.
  • Funny story as to why I don't know the answer to your question:  both of my parents worked for the post office.  It wasn't until I was out of college that I finally learned that you could put outgoing mail in your own mailbox and the mailman would take it!  I just always put it on the kitchen table and one of my parents would take it to work with them.
