Infertility

NE1 w/ RA, lupus, chronic pain etc.?

Hi ladies,

Anyone else out there have chronic pain or some type of autoimmune disease? I'm having a flare-up right now in the middle of my IVF cycle and cannot take any meds and today it's really wearing me down. I just want to know if anyone else out there is in the same boat as me (though I wouldn't wish this on anyone) ...but knowing will help give me some strength!!

Re: NE1 w/ RA, lupus, chronic pain etc.?

  • I have MS and I worry about a relapse, especially during an ivf treatment.  Having an autoimmune disease on top of IF is very very trying... But hang in there, I hope your relapse is a short one.  By the way, which condition do you have?

J - did you get my email? I'm sure the castor oil packs that I talked about are no match for the pain you're in, but maybe worth a try. Sorry to hear you're having a flare up.  Take care.
  • Hi CBL - YES!! I just did. Thanks so much for sending it. I will try to reply later on sometime today :)

  • My SIL has rheumatoid arthritis and an autoimmune disorder (not enough markers for Lupus, so diagnosed as a catch all autoimmune).  She was lucky enough to get pregnant on her own (after a failed adoption attempt),  She said that she felt so much better pregnant as the hormones counteracted her symptoms.

    Good luck!

  • I have RA and have been on plaquenil to keep it under control while TTC.  I went off of everything (was on Arava, MTX, and Arthrotec before) three years ago, but then added back the plaquenil last year.  Recent studies in women with Lupus have shown that it is safe to use throughout pregnancy.

I just did IVF#1 and got my positive beta today.  I am going to talk to my Rheumo about when I should go off plaquenil.  I'm hoping that I'll fall into the category of pg women who go into remission during pregnancy.
