XP: Pink Eye

I posted this on the preschool board but it's slow, w/ no responses!

My 3 1/2 yo DS was sent home from Preschool today because his eye was very watering and kinda pink, plus he has some kind of cold sore on his lip... his teachers think he has pink eye!

We made a Dr appt for tomorrow, has anyone gone thru this before? Is pink eye a viral thing?  Which would kind of connect his cold sore and eye watering together??

Any words of wisdom would help!  I'm also wondering if the dr's visit will just be a waste because it's something that just needs to run it's course?? KWIM?

If its pink eye then he will need eye drops. Pink eye is very contagious which is why even with suspicion of it, kids are sent home from DC. I am not sure if the cold sore has something to do with the eye but I certainly dont think its a waste of time to take him to the doc. Also, if it is pink eye, the preschool can inform other parents so they are aware that a classmate has it.
