I had to run to the store to get some milk and random treats. I was caught behind someone in line with 2 carts overflowing. She bought 10 cases of bottled water.
DH stopped on the way home for me because we have two (maybe three) sick kids and I needed supplies. He said it was awful. Usually there are maybe 2-3 check-outs open and never any lines at this store. Every check-out was open and they were all 5 deep in lines. Bread and milk were scarce (can anyone tell me why everyone buys bread and milk?). All I needed was some gatorade for the sick kids and wine for me. Oh and french fries for dinner. It's Armageddon.
The thing I don't get about the water is that they really only recommend it for people that live in the country and have wells. If you live in the city and your power goes out, you still have city water.
Therefore, if you're stocking up on water, you'd need a lot, right? Why the HELL wouldn't you buy the gallon jugs of it? Its so so much cheaper to do that. I mean, are you really going to wash your face with a $1 bottle of evian? Really?
Well coming from someone in the South (so we really do freak at the slightest bit of weather), milk and bread tend to run out the fastest just b/c of shelf life. They truly do go first in our house We drink about 5 or 6 gallons of milk per week. Anyway, when we had our "big" snowstorm a few weeks ago, we could not get out of our driveway for 5 days due to ice...it was nice to be stocked! I personally am content as long as I can have a glass of milk and a sandwich....a can of soup and water would keep me alive, but no need to "suffer" if I can prepare in advance. We were very comfortable, and other than a bit of cabin fever we had no issues staying home for 5 days.
Even the lines at the petstore were insane. I found myself wondering how many cats the lady owned if she needs 10 million cans of food for a couple days.
Can't believe I forgot to stock up on wine. What was I thinking.
I took DS up to the library this morning to return some stuff and it was insane there. You couldn't even walk through the DVD area, people are stocking up on free movies too.

I did that this evening. I got 2 new movies, 2 new books and a couple of coloring pages for the kids : )
I work evenings and just stopped at Wal-Mart on my way home (only place on my way home still open.) I snapped this picture while there:
Awesome!
I went to Costco and bought milk, butter, and wine. The real tragedy here is that I stupidly put the (red) wine loose in the back of my car, and the two bottles banged into eachother on my first turn and one of the bottles broke. My car smells like a winery and I lost a bottle of wine. At least I have black interior!
I have no extra provisions, Dh is working today so I will have him pick up whatever we need on the way home. I do have like 10 packages of Gold Fish because they were a $1 and I bought them for snack for DD's school. As least my kids will have processed junk all day long!
Re: I think people are confusing the snow with Y2K
I know, the weather guys are so freaking excited "OMG the world will END". ?Seriously?? ?Yeah it sucks, but we live in Michigan FFS. ?
I just wish we had a snowblower LOL

MH is @ Wal-Mart (we don't have fancy grocery stores) and he said the cereal, bread and water is wiped out!
Hmmm...now I am wondering if I should have bought more milk. I have two gallons...(and a half gallon of chocolate, first time ever buying tho)
I just got an update: milk bananas, juice and eggs are gone too.

people stocking up on milk makes me wonder if I'm missing something! I have 3 gallons, hopefully that will last me until this stuff is over.

Well, if we lose power for any length of time, we won't have water so I can see it. We've got a well and the pump doesn't work if the power is out.
I got the 'emergency French toast kit' and some fruit.
