Amnio

So, I got my quad screen results back ( bloodwork) and they were off, took my chances from 1 in 3500 ( after nuchal u/s) down to 1 in 222, considering I'm only 20, and pregnancy with DD was essentially problem free I was freaking out a bit...

Well I had the amnio this past friday and it was surprisingly quick and painless, now I'm just awaiting the results... impatiently, really impatiently... doc said we will prob hear a week from today...

but any encouraging words/ advice/ anything to help the waiting would be much appreciated!

  • That is nerve wracking but it's still good odds that everything is ok.

Just try to remember - whatever is going on, worrying about it now won't change the outcome. As hard as it may be, try to stay positive and not stress out over the unknown.

Maybe keep up your favorite hobby to keep yourself busy and your mind occupied? Or tackle a cleaning project or something at home?

  • You know that in all reality there is likely absolutely nothing wrong with your babe.

That is still hard to hear when that little voice is constantly filling you with doubt.  I wish I could tell you to relax and you will find out when the time is right, but that is impossible!  I have never had an amnio, but I have gone through a second-trimester loss, and the waiting game is never fun.  Sometimes babeis are not perfect, but all we can do is the best we can and not add to the stress...

My thoughts go out to you.  When your doc calls with the good news, be sure to celebrate well!

This is good advice.  Stay busy!  Maybe plan a day trip you could go on, or try new recipes.

  • Remember: 1:222 is less than half of one percent!

  • I'm sure that's stressful. I hope time goes quickly. just try to not let your mind go anywhere but positive thoughts.. Movies, hobbies you enjoy, people who care.
