I am scheduled for an amnio tomorrow and am feeling anxious - about the results, about the procedure really about everything. The NT scan showed good results but I still worry. I am also a little worried about the procedure itself. Any tips froms those who had had it done?
Re: Amnio tomorrow . . . what to expect?
I had an amnio with Margaux, and CVS with this new one.
The procedure itself is quick, like maybe a minute. You get to watch on the ultrasound, which is fun.
Other than a little pinching, I had no pain, but it feels a bit weird when the needle goes through your abdominal wall. Kind of a *kachunk* feeling. It's quick and easy, and if you have trouble with needles don't look, and you'll be just fine.
I had the CVS, NT scan and the results were good but I also wanted to do the amnio. Everyone is different. I've heard from some that it was quick and painless, mine was a little uncomfortable, but I think it may have had something to do with the fact that I had a tummy tuck, my stomach was really tight and it took them about five minutes to complete. I had minor cramping the rest of the day,but laid down and rested and have been fine.
Oh yeah, and loved the fact that I had a chance to see my LO and to find out that it's a boy. Enjoy the time with him. I just stared at the screen.
I had mine about 9 weeks ago.
If you're RH Neg they will give you the shot.
They gave me a shot to numb my tummy, then used the ultrasound to find a good spot to poke.
I didn't feel much, but I am not bothered by needles at all. If you watch the ultrasound monitor and watch baby it should keep your mind off of what's going on.
They gave me a script for medication to help with cramping in the uterus, but I never needed it.
They made me hang around for another half hour to watch and make sure everything was ok.
Then I went home and curled up with a good book and took it easy for the rest of the afternoon.
I was nervous at first, but when I asked the tech how many miscarriages they've seen due to amnio in their office, she said "none, and he does 3 of these a day"
Great! I hope you get awesome news in the next couple of weeks
Getting the "all clear" really gave me some relief in my worries.
