WWYD? RE: Go to OB or PCP?

I have the paragard IUD and I want to switch it out with mirena. I also am due (in March) for my next annual. Before I had a baby, my PCP did all my annuals and I am sure she could do the IUD switch. I'm just wondering if I should stay with my OB now or go back to my PCP? Obviously it is my decision to make, just wondering what you all have done...

Re: WWYD? RE: Go to OB or PCP?

  • I always go to my OB/gyno for annuals and all things bc related.  Which dr do you like more?  My OB is my fave doctor, so I use him whenever I can.

My PCP has been my doc for 11 years. I really like the OB but I know that when I have another baby I will be going with a MW so I wonder if I should just cut ties now... (it will still be awhile before the next baby).

  • Do you plan on having more children?  If you do, you might as well keep going to your OB so they can keep up to date with your history.  I have always gone to a separate doctor for my gynecological needs.  :)

  • I go to a specialist any time I can.  I think my PCP is one of the most brilliant docs around, but she did not go to school for extra time to learn about bones or uteruses or blood.  If you have to get a referral to go to your OB and have never had any "issues" down there, I could see going to the PCP, but otherwise, why not go to the expert?
  • I work in a dr office that had OB and PCP and the pcp don't insert or remove IUDs, only the OB doctors and mid wives.
