Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Maybe a stupid sleep question...

I keep seeing all of these posts about putting LO down at night awake, not sleeping.  What is the reason for putitng LO down at night awake vs. sleeping? We've been doing the same routine since about 6 weeks, and it seems to be working fine, but I always put DS down when he's sleeping.  We do bedtime every night at 8pm, once DS is in his PJ's I give him his bottle.  I hold him for about 5-10 minutes afterwards and during this time he falls asleep and then I put him in his crib.  I don't rock him, he just falls asleep within a few minutes after his bottle.  He sleeps until I wake him at 6:30am to get ready for daycare or 7:30 or 8:00am if it's a day that he doesn't go to daycare.  Should I be doing something different?  I'm a first time Mom so I don't want to set myself up for problems in the future if I'm doing something wrong.  So, what's the reasoning behind putting LO down while they are still awake?

  • Everyone goes in and out of sleep cycles during the night, but babies who know how to get themselves to sleep do not fully awaken like babies who do not know how to.  You obviously do not have an issue because your LO sleeps so long.  LUCKY!

  • i dont think your doing anything wrong.

i put DS down awake with a bottle.  when i try to hold him he fights me and wiggles around.  IMO all babies are differant and have differant styles.

This, exactly. I am so happy that DS can fall asleep on his own. We've been putting him down awake and he falls asleep on his own since Day 1.
