Cincinnati Babies

At what age did you start keeping the potty chair out,

even if you weren't ready to start full-on potty training?

When Justin preferred the big potty over the potty chair, we put away the little potties.  They were in the way and let's just say they caused problems for us for a while.

But Tyler is coming up on 17 months old, and I can't believe that I'm saying/thinking/typing this, but I'm thinking it might be a good idea to get the potties out again to get him used to having them around and maybe even sitting on them out of curiosity.

Justin was really hard to train, and I think that's mostly because I waited so long to really work with him.

So what age were your kiddos when you got the potty out?

Re: At what age did you start keeping the potty chair out,

  • We bought one last February (so 17-18 mos).  Then I bought a 2nd one about a month ago.  We're starting to be more interested in the potty in general, but I'm not interested in forcing the potty on Brandon.

And actually, because he only wants the big potty, I'm probably going to list our 2 little potties on CL.  I haven't decided yet though.

  • Around 16-17 months.
  • We left a potty or potty seat out around 18 months.
  • We just started leaving one out all of the time and I wish we would have started earlier. I say go for it and start leaving it out for Tyler!

  • I've obviously never done this before since Carter is my first, but we're buying 2 potties this week so that we can get him used to sitting on it.  We've been reading books and talking about the potty a lot over the past month or so.  We're not going to push him, but I would like to see where he goes with this.
