Cloth Diapering

Do I need to prep suede cloth before sewing?

Does it need to be washed and dried beforehand?  I have a washer, but no dryer, so I'm hoping the answer is no! I can always go to the laundromat if needed. Thanks!

OH!  What about PUL?  Does it need to be prepped or can I do it after the diapers/covers are sewn??

  • I have never made diapers, but I do wash/dry everything before I sew, the same way I want to wash/dry it in the future.

  • The only fabrics I don't prep are PUL and fleece.
  • IMO all fabric should be washed before being used because it's really dirty from the factory/store.  I'd imagine that your PUL is w/ polyester fabric?  If so, neither it or the suedecloth should shrink.  I'd still wash them on warm and let them air dry though - if it were me.
